Coagulation Controller – CoagSense

Coagulation Controller – CoagSense

Pi’s CoagSense coagulation controller is a comprehensive solution designed to optimize coagulation control by integrating multiple input parameters, including pH, flow, temperature, UV254, turbidity, and streaming current. Using these inputs, the CoagSense provides a flow-proportional coagulation control signal that can either be sent to the site SCADA system or directly control a coagulant dosing pump.

Customised Coagulation Control for Every Site

Coagulation is a complex process influenced by numerous variables that differ across water treatment sites. Key factors affecting coagulation include:

Raw Water Characteristics: pH, alkalinity, turbidity, organic loading, and temperature.
Coagulant Type: The specific chemical used for coagulation.
Post-Coagulation Parameters: pH and temperature of the treated water.
Physical Design: Factors like dosing point and mixing conditions.

These variables can vary from site to site, water source to water source, and even day to day. Pi recognizes that "one size does not fit all." A coagulation control strategy trialed at one location may not work at another, and each system must be custom-designed to meet the specific needs of individual water treatment plants. Pi offers this bespoke design and specification service to ensure optimal coagulation control.

Assess Before Upgrading

Before modifying existing coagulation controls, Pi recommends installing and monitoring a coagulation analyser. This allows operators to evaluate the performance of their current control systems and identify areas for improvement, ensuring any updates are data-driven and effective.

Applications

Historically, multi-parameter coagulation control systems have been PLC-based, overly complex, costly, and often criticized for lacking robustness and reliability. The CoagSense coagulation analyser from Pi offers a stand-alone, instrument-based solution that is fully configurable to handle site-specific and within-site variations.

Water treatment facilities have traditionally attempted to control coagulant dosing using a single parameter—such as pH, turbidity, streaming current, or UV254—with mixed results. Pi’s CoagSense coagulation analyser enables flexible control using one, multiple, or all of these parameters, ensuring greater accuracy and efficiency in coagulation control.

Options

The CoagSense coagulation controller is versatile and can be employed in various configurations:

Coagulation Monitor: Monitors an existing system for performance assessment.
Coagulation Analyser: Provides valuable data to develop a control strategy prior to full-scale implementation.
Full-Scale Coagulation Controller: Operates either stand-alone or integrated with SCADA for direct control of the coagulation process.

The CoagSense system is adaptable, with options to meet diverse site requirements. Available features include:

Remote Access:
Over LAN

Over GPRS
Modbus Connectivity:
Over LAN

Over RS485
Site Sensor Inputs: Incorporates data from multiple site sensors.
Data Logging: Records operational data for analysis and reporting.
Onboard PID Controls: Enables precise dosing adjustments.
Direct Coagulant Pump Control: Directly manages dosing pumps for accurate coagulant delivery.
Integration with SCADA: Enables coagulant pump control via supervisory systems.

With these options and configurations, the CoagSense coagulation analyser empowers water treatment professionals to achieve optimal process performance tailored to their specific needs.
