The Electro-Deionization Process

Electrically-driven Ion Exchange process using ion-selective membranes and DC current.

Resins are continuously regenerated by H+ and OH- ions generated from water dissociation under DC current field, eliminating the need for chemical regeneration.

1

Dilute Compartment

Feed water passes through Mixed Bed resins caught between membranes. Ions migrate towards electrodes.

2

DC Current Field

Applied voltage drives anions to Anode (+) and cations to Cathode (-).

3

Concentrate Compartment

Ions pass through selective membranes and are trapped in concentrate channels, then rejected.

4

Continuous Regeneration

Water splitting at resin surface generates H+ & OH- to continuously regenerate resins.

Note: Under the DC field, ions pass through selective membranes into concentrate channels. Water splitting continuously regenerates the resin.

Why Choose EDI?

The modern alternative to conventional mixed bed deionization.

Conventional Mixed Bed

  • Requires Acid/Caustic for regeneration
  • Batch process, requires downtime
  • Hazardous chemical handling
  • Variable water quality

Ionic EDI System

  • Electricity as solely consumable
  • Continuous 24/7 operation
  • Chemical-free process
  • Consistent 18 MegOhm.cm quality

Applications

EDI is the industry standard for high-purity water requirements in critical infrastructure and manufacturing sectors.

Supercritical high-pressure boiler feed (Power/CSP)
NOx reduction (Gas Turbines)
Semiconductor fabrication (Ultrapure Water)
Water For Injection (WFI) for Pharma
Pharma Industry
