Unlike RO which uses high pressure to force water through membranes (mechanical separation), CED uses an electrostatic field to pull dissolved salts out of the water. This results in significantly higher water recovery (up to 95%), lower energy consumption, and resistance to fouling.
No. CED is a chemical-free process. Unlike Ion Exchange which requires acid/caustic regeneration or RO which often needs anti-scalants, CED operates purely on electricity and can effectively handle silica without scaling.
CED achieves ultra-high recovery rates of up to 95%, meaning much less wastewater is generated compared to traditional desalination methods.
Yes, CED is highly tunable. The system can adjust its removal efficiency from 25% to 95% TDS reduction dynamically to meet specific output requirements, whereas RO is generally fixed at high rejection.
Maintenance is minimal. The system features automated electrode regeneration (polarity reversal) which cleans the electrodes during operation. There are no membranes to replace frequently like in RO.
CED is extremely energy efficient, typically consuming less than 0.5 kWh per cubic meter of treated water, making it one of the most sustainable desalination technologies available.
